A hole in one for cancer research
Luncheon honors golfing legend
A Conversation With a Living Legend® in Dallas, the original living legend event, celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2014. The Nov. 3 event surpassed its $1 million fundraising goal for the second consecutive year and for the fourth time in its history.
Benefiting the Moon Shots Program, MD Anderson’s ambitious action plan to end cancer, the event honored professional golfer and two-time Masters Champion Ben Crenshaw. Golf commentator David Feherty interviewed Crenshaw, keeping the crowd of more than 790 on its toes with his edgy humor. The two bantered about many topics including Crenshaw’s photographic memory of every golf statistic imaginable, spanning multiple decades of knowledge.
Chair Deborah Gunter led a volunteer committee of 55 Dallas-Fort Worth area business and community leaders. Presenting sponsors Andrews Distributing and AT&T once again contributed $100,000 each to the event. Sponsors at the $50,000 level were Benny Barton and MD Anderson Cancer Center Board of Visitors members Baxter Brinkmann and Lyda Hill.
Former A Conversation With a Living Legend® honoree T. Boone Pickens (2008) was among the attendees. To date, this unique North Texas tradition has raised more than $14.4 million for cancer patient care and research programs at MD Anderson.
