Imaging pioneer takes on leadership roles

David Piwnica-Worms, M.D., Ph.D.

MD Anderson team member, physician-scientist David Piwnica-Worms, M.D., Ph.D., has assumed two leadership posts at MD Anderson: chair of Cancer Systems Imaging and deputy division head, research affairs, for Diagnostic Imaging. “The opportunities at MD Anderson are truly exciting,” says Piwnica-Worms. “The Moon Shots Program, the dedication to enhancing basic and preclinical science to better inform and advance the institution’s wonderful, well-established clinical mission, and the resources dedicated to that mission are all inspiring.”

Prior to arriving at MD Anderson in June, Piwnica-Worms was director of the Washington University Medical School Molecular Imaging Center and its BRIGHT Institute (Bridging Research with Imaging, Genomics and High-Throughput Technologies). Piwnica-Worms was at the St. Louis medical school for almost 20 years.He will be professor in Cancer Systems Imaging (formerly Experimental Diagnostic Imaging) and Cancer Biology.

She and her husband Lance have three children.
