Private philanthropy boosts MD Anderson's Moon Shots Program
Donor commitments to unprecedented assault on cancer surpass $100 million
MD Anderson has received more than $100 million in private philanthropic commitments to the Moon Shots Program. The rapid accomplishment of this milestone underscores the generosity of MD Anderson supporters and their confidence in this accelerated effort to conquer cancer.
The program’s success relies heavily on private philanthropy. Leading contributors include:
- Lyda Hill: $50 million
- The Robert J. Kleberg, Jr. and Helen C. Kleberg Foundation: $10 million
- Marathon Oil Company: $3 million
- The Cullen Trust for Health Care: $2 million
- Mr. and Mrs. William J. Kyte: $2 million
- The John G. and Marie Stella Kenedy Memorial Foundation: $1.5 million
“The Moon Shots Program holds the potential for a new approach to research that eventually can be applied to all cancers and even to other chronic diseases,” says Ronald A. DePinho, M.D., president of MD Anderson. “History has taught us that if we put our minds to a task, the human spirit will prevail. We’re grateful for the support of these generous donors in bringing us to this significant milestone moment and giving us the resources to do this for all patients in the future.”
