Ashley Loeffler, of Houston, is chair of MD Anderson's Advance Team, a volunteer leadership board of "next generation" community and business leaders. She's worked in the office of Texas Gov. George W. Bush and Sen. Jeffrey Wentworth, in the development office at The University of Texas at Austin and as campaign finance director of Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst. She and her husband Lance have three children.
Supporting MD Anderson was an easy decision for me, made even more personal by the 2006 cancer diagnosis of my dear friend, Jennifer Womble Daniels, who also lives in Houston. I was grateful for the opportunity to support MD Anderson and all of the wonderfully talented doctors, nurses and medical staff who were helping save my friend’s life. She is now cancer-free and is also serving with me on the Advance Team. My mother- in-law, Nancy Loeffler, was diagnosed with cancer in 2007, and we credit the care she received at MD Anderson with saving her life as well.
Unfortunately, cancer is a reality for us all. We all know someone who’s been touched by cancer in some way, either personally or through a friend or family member. MD Anderson serves as a beacon of hope. I feel blessed to live in the same city as the No. 1 cancer hospital in the world. I’m thankful for the opportunity to give back to the institution that gives so much to so many. MD Anderson provides us with hope that one day we can put an end to cancer.
