- Endoscopy Center
MD Anderson's Endoscopy Center plays a key role in gastrointestinal (GI) cancer care. The center:
- Diagnoses, stages and treats GI cancers and pre-cancerous conditions, including Barrett’s esophagus
- Monitors GI cancer patients to determine how they are responding to treatment
- Treats GI complications of cancer, including jaundice and difficulty swallowing.
The center provides this care through various endoscopy procedures. During an endoscopy, doctors use a camera attached to the end of a thin, flexible tube to examine tissue and organs. Doctors can use tools attached to the tube to treat different conditions.
Colorectal cancer screening
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States. It is also 90% preventable with early screening. Colorectal cancer screening is recommended for people age 45 and older or with a family history of the disease.
These colonoscopies are performed in the Endoscopy Center, as well as MD Anderson West Houston and MD Anderson The Woodlands. Please visit our appointments page to request a colorectal cancer screening appointment.
