Research
Recently, the Shelburne Laboratory has taken on a highly coordinated multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional effort with the objective to better understand of the key role that the microbiome plays in cancer patient morbidity. Specifically, state of the art pathogen and microbiome sequencing information will be added to host genomic sequencing data in order to identify risk factors for infectious disease related toxicities in patients undergoing chemotherapy.
Ongoing experiments aim at using the microbiome/16S sequencing as a diagnostic tool and using bacterial intervention to improve patient outcomes.
