Welcome to the Gottlieb Laboratory! We’re an interdisciplinary lab, combining molecular and cellular biology, genetics and analytical chemistry. The Gottlieb Lab is interested in identifying crucial metabolic pathways and processes that can be leveraged to enable new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Previous discoveries include identification of the onco-metabolic signaling cascade following the genetic inactivation of the tumor suppressors and TCA cycle enzymes succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) and fumarate hydratase (FH), as well as metabolic processes which are uniquely essential for the survival of cancer cells that are deficient in FH or SDH. More recently, the lab discovered a unique metabolic circulating biomarker with excellent diagnostic power for classifying FH-deficient renal cell cancer. Our ultimate goal is to help develop new clinical approaches and treatment strategies for cancer and other metabolic disorders.
Research Focus Areas
- Cancer metabolism, oxidative stress and DNA damage response
- Metabolic adaptions in cancer progression
- Metabolic control of fatty liver disease
- Metabolic vulnerabilities as novel cancer therapeutic targets
