Brian Bednarski, M.D., was elected to the Complex General Surgical Oncology (CGSO) Board of Directors for the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The CGSO Board is considered a specialty board of the ABS. The specialty boards define and oversee all certification and examination processes in their respective specialties.
Tsuyoshi Konishi, M.D., Ph.D., Colon & Rectal Surgery associate professor, was appointed as a Deputy Editor of Techniques in Coloproctology. He was also selected as an Associate Editor for the journal Diseases of the Colon & Rectum.
Tsuyoshi Konishi, M.D., Ph.D., Colon and Rectal Surgery associate professor, and Kentaro Ochiai, Ph.D., Colon and Rectal Surgery visiting scientist, were accepted as representative researchers of the Japan Society of Endoscopic Surgery to access the Japanese National Clinical Database for the project, titled, “Outcomes of extended resection beyond TME for rectal cancer and creation of a predictive model to decide the best surgical approach.”
Miguel Rodriguez Bigas, M.D., Colon & Rectal Surgery clinical professor, was awarded an Honorary Life Membership by the International Society for Gastrointestinal Hereditary Tumours (InSiGHT).
Michael White, M.D., Colon and Rectal Surgery assistant professor, had his Cancer Center Support Grant Supplement application accepted for funding by the National Cancer Institute Early-stage Surgeon Scientist Program (ESSP). He was also awarded the Clinical and Translational Science Awards K12 position for his proposal titled, "Eradication of Deleterious Tumoral Microbiome in Rectal Cancer to Enhance Non-Operative Management."
