Improving Quality of Life

Following a cancer diagnosis and treatment, it is normal for patients to experience burdensome physical symptoms and/or psychological distress from their disease and/or the cancer treatment itself. Sometimes these symptoms require specialized care in addition to your primary cancer treatment.

The Supportive Care Center focuses on improving quality of life for MD Anderson Cancer Center patients and their families. Upon referral, our patients receive care from one or more of three specialty medical groups in the following clinics:

• Supportive Care Clinic
• Cachexia Clinic
• Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic

Patients are referred to the Supportive Care Center through an internal consultation by their primary service or physician. The Supportive Care Center accepts patients of all cancer diagnoses, at any point within their disease and/or treatment process.

Whether we are working on reducing difficult physical or emotional symptoms, improving function and reducing disability, or integrating complementary therapies into patients’ treatment, we coordinate with each patient and their primary care team.

Our multidisciplinary team includes physicians specializing in supportive care and rehabilitation medicine, nurses, social workers, dieticians, therapists, pharmacists and administrative support staff focused solely on strengthening, relieving and comforting our patients and their families.
