Making Cancer History®: Free seminar comes to Austin
MD Anderson experts to share latest in fight against cancer at Sept. 12 educational event

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center brings its signature Making Cancer History® seminar to Austin, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, Sept. 12, at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center, 1900 University Ave. Renowned experts from the nation’s No. 1 cancer center will share advances of the Moon Shots Program, a comprehensive initiative to significantly reduce cancer deaths and transform care. Originally scheduled for April 19, the seminar was postponed due to inclement weather.
The free seminar is open to the public and includes lunch. Doors open at 11 a.m.
Presentations will feature:
- Ronald DePinho, M.D., president of MD Anderson
- Joxel Garcia, M.D., executive director, Cancer Prevention and Control moon shots platform, and former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Health
- Jeffrey Molldrem, M.D., professor, Stem Cell Transplantation, and scientific director, Oncology Research for Biologics and Immunotherapy Translation (ORBIT) moon shots platform
A question-and-answer session will follow the presentations.
MD Anderson is the nation’s top hospital for cancer care, earning the No. 1 ranking in U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals” survey 12 times in 15 years.
Since opening in March 1944, more than 1 million people have sought treatment at MD Anderson, including more than 20,600 Austinites. The MD Anderson Cancer Center Board of Visitors, which provides leadership and support for MD Anderson, includes seven members from Austin.
