Lymphoma/Myeloma symposium for patients and caregivers set for Jan. 9

Patients with lymphoma or myeloma and their caregivers will have access to leading experts in this field of cancer during an upcoming symposium to be held Jan. 9 in Houston.
The event, “Lymphoma/Myeloma Update for Patients: What’s New for 2016?” will take place at the Omni Houston Westside, 13210 Katy Freeway. The symposium is presented by The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Sponsors include Multiple Myeloma Opportunities for Research & Education (MORE), the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Patient Power.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for patients and their caregivers and families to hear from some of the top experts in all areas of treatment for lymphoma and myeloma,” said Jatin Shah, M.D., associate professor in the Department of Lymphoma/Myeloma. “This event is designed to answer patients ‘questions about the newest research and therapies for these diseases.”
The symposium includes the following topic areas:
• Transplant therapy
• New treatment options for newly diagnosed and relapsed lymphoma/myeloma including clinical trials opportunities
• General information about lymphoma/myeloma.
Presenters will discuss the latest advances for such therapies as CAR T-cells and other immunotherapies, stem cell transplantation, new emerging clinical trials for multiple myeloma, how to cope with chronic disease, and other topics.
The event starts with registration and continental breakfast at 7 a.m., with a myeloma session from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a session on lymphoma from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
