Latest breakthroughs presented at Making Cancer History® seminar July 21 in Aspen

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center returns to Aspen July 21 for its 16th annual Making Cancer History® seminar. The free event will take place from 1-3 p.m. at Aspen Meadows Resort’s Paepcke Auditorium, 1000 N. Third St. Seating is limited. See registration information below.
Presenters at this year’s seminar will provide updates on the latest developments in support of MD Anderson’s Moon Shots Program. Launched in September 2012, the program aims to accelerate efforts of rapidly converting scientific discoveries into clinical advances that will dramatically reduce cancer deaths. The program comprises six teams of researchers and clinicians focusing on these initial cancers:
- acute myeloid leukemia/myelodysplastic syndromes
- chronic lymphocytic leukemia
- melanoma
- lung cancer
- prostate cancer
- triple-negative breast cancer
- high-grade serous ovarian cancer
The ultimate goal of the Moon Shots Program is to apply knowledge gained to support all other cancer research at MD Anderson.

- Jim Allison, Ph.D., on immunology
- Jeff Gershenwald, M.D., on melanoma
- Karen Lu, M.D., on women’s cancers
- Mark Moreno, on cancer prevention and governmental relations
