Grammy®-nominated Pat Green Slated to Perform for 25th Anniversary

MD Anderson News Release 03/22/11

Polo and Pat Green: It's a winning combination, and all for a great cause. World-class polo players and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center supporters are gearing up for Polo on the Prairie's 25th anniversary, April 30 at the Musselman Brothers' Lazy 3 Ranch in Albany, Texas. Proceeds will benefit cancer research and patient care programs at MD Anderson.

Polo on the Prairie offers guests the opportunity to see a U.S. Polo Association-sanctioned tournament on a West Texas pasture planted with Bermuda grass just for the occasion. Immediately following the championship match, guests will enjoy a Texas-size chuck wagon barbecue and dance to a private concert by one of Texas' best country music entertainers, Grammy®-nominated Pat Green.

Following Green's performance, fireworks will light up the skies over the Lazy 3 Ranch for the traditional Polo on the Prairie finale.

Midland natives Melinda and Henry Musselman, along with Melinda's mother, Mary Anne McCloud, started the event to raise awareness of and philanthropic support for MD Anderson. Melinda has seen firsthand how Polo on the Prairie has positively impacted the lives of many.

"It's wonderful to be celebrating such a momentous milestone. Everyone here wants to do what they can to help MD Anderson," said Musselman. "We're celebrating 25 years of survivorship, new friends gained and a greater awareness about cancer. We're thankful for the many polo players who have committed their time, funds and resources to helping Polo on the Prairie reach this pinnacle of achievement."

In its 25 years of existence, Polo on the Prairie has raised more than $3.6 million, including $248,000 already in 2011.

"I am thrilled that Polo on the Prairie has been benefiting cancer research for a quarter century," said John Mendelsohn, M.D., president of MD Anderson. "It is a celebration that brings together friends and families and helps support cancer programs, patient support resources and more. We are truly grateful to the many people who have supported this wonderful event."
