Global Outreach
Our mission to end cancer has no borders. As a globally respected leader in cancer care, MD Anderson shares our best practices in education, prevention, and treatment to impact cancer care worldwide.
Our international outreach programs expand our reach and advance our mission to end cancer worldwide through collaboration-fueled education, training, research, and career development programs in low resource settings, as well as advisory services for healthcare providers across the globe.
Global Oncology
Focused on reducing the cancer burden in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) worldwide, our Global Oncology program fosters collaborations with governments and mission-aligned organizations to advance education, training, public policy, and research initiatives.
Global Oncology at MD Anderson seeks to improve the quality of cancer care in LMICs worldwide through prevention and cancer control; education and training; collaborative research; and career development. The program combines MD Anderson clinical expertise with the resources and geographic experience of mission-aligned international cancer organizations, governmental agencies, and non-governmental agencies (NGOs).

Who We Are
The Global Oncology Program was launched in September 2022, as an expansion of MD Anderson Cancer Network's international outreach and initiatives aimed at reducing the global cancer burden. The program brings together MD Anderson experts from across the full spectrum of cancer care to develop and implement programs that will help save lives around the world.
International Referrals
Who We Serve
Given the disproportionate number of cancer deaths in LMICs, our program seeks to transform prevention, cancer control, and cancer care delivery in these low resource countries, particularly in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We collaborate with other international cancer organizations to provide support for specific groups in LMICs.
What We Do
Global Oncology is centered on the following pillars that guide our engagements in LMICs.
Education and Training
With a goal of reducing the cancer burden worldwide, we provide a wide range of remote and onsite education and training initiatives in collaboration with international agencies. These programs help to elevate evidence-based cancer prevention and control activities, optimize care delivery, and engage providers in learning across the continuum of cancer care.
Our most comprehensive education initiative, Project ECHO® (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes), aims to build capacity among community-based clinicians in LMICs via case-based learning and co-management of patients utilizing videoconferencing technology, integrated with clinical management tools.
Government Engagement and Policy Development
By building relationships with governments, we work to influence policy and accelerate cancer control in the population level.
Research
We conduct collaborative research with organizations to improve local cancer prevention and care.
Global Cancer Care Track for Trainees
We are developing the next generation of global oncology leaders through a new Global Cancer Care Track for trainees. This educational offering provides immersive training and career development for MD Anderson fellows interested in serving in global health settings. Professional growth opportunities include monthly Global Grand Rounds. Learn more about how we achieve this mission.
Project ECHO
Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) is a teleconsulting and telementoring partnership between MD Anderson specialists and providers in rural and underserved communities.
