The Student Selection Process
Eight Steps to Understanding the Student Selection Process
The application process begins with applications opening mid-Septemeber each year, followed by application reviews starting March 1. Applicants who have not completed the admission requirements at the time of student selection are declined admission. The selection process is based on the numerically quantified admission requirements. The top-scoring applicants are offered positions in the program.
- Complete the Application
- Submit Official Transcripts
- Submit Three Professional Recommendations
- Attend a Program Information Session
- Complete a Clinical Site Visit
- Complete the Program Admissions Exam
- Complete the P16
- Complete the Selection Interview
It is the applicants responsibility to verify all steps of the selection process are complete and documentation received for review prior to the deadline date.
Step One - Complete the Application
It's imperative that applicants complete ALL sections of the Application. Starting the process early is highly recommended. All admission requirements must be fulfilled for admission to the program. Any applications that are submitted incomplete will result in the applicant being declined admission.
Step Two - Submit Official Transcripts
Submit OFFICIAL Transcripts from ALL schools attended to the Registrar's Office. Do not send official transcripts to any other department, as this negates the official aspect of the transcripts, and you will be required to submit and pay for them again.
To be evaluated for admission, transcripts must be received before the closing application submission date of March 1. It is crucial for the applicant to verify that the Registrar receives all transcripts before this date. Applicants missing transcripts will be declined admission.
Before starting the program, applicants must complete all prerequisite and general education core required courses. This is a critical step in the application process. Applicants receive points based on science/math and overall grade point averages.
Applicants missing 3 or more of the following courses will be denied admission: Anatomy and Physiology I, Anatomy and Physiology II, College Physics I, College Physics II, and Precalculus. Upon application, students who have completed these courses are awarded total points in the admission calculation.
Applicants whose transcripts show completion of 3 of the following courses will continue in the selection process with fewer points awarded. Anatomy and Physiology I, Anatomy and Physiology II, College Physics I, College Physics II, Precalculus, and all remaining prerequisite courses can be completed by the program's start date.
Applicants will be declined for the following:
- An applicant with an overall, science, and/or prerequisite grade point average below 2.5.
- An applicant’s transcripts demonstrate the lack of 3 or more of these courses: Anatomy and Physiology I, Anatomy and Physiology II, College Physics I, College Physics II, Precalculus.
- An applicant’s transcripts demonstrate that the applicant cannot complete all prerequisite courses before starting the program.
Step Three - Submit Three Professional Recommendations
Professional Recommendations must be submitted to the Registrar using the approved form.. Professional recommendations must be from employers, instructors, or supervisors. Letters of recommendation are not acceptable and will not be reviewed or evaluated. It is the applicant's responsibility to verify that recommendation forms have been received. Applicants with fewer than two recommendations will be declined admission. Professional references are used in the admission calculation.
Step Four - Attend a Program Information Session
Schedule and Attend a Program Information Session
Each applicant must attend a Program Information Session and submit a Letter of Understanding provided during this session. Information sessions are offered in person or virtually. Applicants who do not attend a Program Information Session will be declined admission.
Step Five - Complete a Clinical Site Visit
Schedule and Complete a Clinical Site Visit
All applicants must complete 16 hours of a clinical site visit in a radiation oncology facility. An evaluation of the applicant by an ARRT Registered Radiation Therapist must be submitted. This evaluation is used in the admission calculation. It is preferred that the applicant schedule the site visit for two consecutive days. Applicants who do not complete a Clinical Site Visit or submit the Clinical Site Visit Evaluation will be declined admission.
EVALUATION POINT MARCH 1 ------------------------------------------------------------------
Applications on file will be evaluated. Admissions scoring will be calculated using grade point averages, course completion, references, and site visit evaluations. Applicants earning high scores will be invited to continue the selection process. Declined applicants are encouraged to improve their scores in the areas above and apply again.
Step Six - Complete the Program Admissions Exam
Complete The Program Admissions Exam
Applicants will receive an invitation to schedule a time to sit for the Program Admissions Exam. This exam covers basic knowledge in mathematics, human anatomy, human physiology, and physics.
Applicants are encouraged to use the materials from prerequisite courses to prepare for this examination, as the score will be used in the admission calculation. Applicants who do not complete the Admissions Exam will be declined admission.
Step Seven - Complete the P16
Complete the P16
The P16 is a professional aptitude assessment. There is no way to prepare for this assessment; answer the questions honestly. Each applicant will receive a personalized link in an email message providing access to the P16 Assessment. This assessment will be used in the admissions calculation. Applicants who do not complete the P16 Assessment will be declined admission.
Step Eight - Complete the Selection Interview
Complete the Selection Interview
The Admissions Committee will interview applicants and assess their responses to the interview questions and the essay submitted as part of their application. The interview and essay scores will be used in the admission calculation.
EVALUATION POINT & STUDENT SELECTION --------------------------------------------------------
After the interviews have been completed, the top-scoring applicants will be offered positions in the program for the next academic year. If a candidate cannot accept their position, the Admissions Committee will select alternates. If applicants are not offered a position, they are encouraged to improve their scores in the above areas and apply again.
