Diagnostic Imaging CT Registry Review

After completion of the course, attendees will earn seven (7) Category "A" CE Credits (pending AHRA Approval).

Upon completion of this CT Registry Review, the learner should:

• Have an understanding of the clinical requirements for the CT Registry,
• Review and understand the content specifications for the CT Registry,
• Understand general patient care to include patient preparation, patient assessment, IV procedures, contrast agents, and radiation safety and dosimetry,
• Have an understanding of imaging procedures of the head, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, and musculoskeletal system to include sectional anatomy review, contrast media usage, and scanning procedures,
• Have an understanding of CT physics and instrumentation to include image processing, image display, image quality, and artifact recognition and reduction.

1. Patient Care/CT Registry Information
   1. Review clinical procedures for the CT Registry: Required clinical procedures and Establish eligibility for certification
   2. Discuss the content specifications for the CT Registry:Post primary examination and Question format and content
   3. Learn how to prepare for the CT Registry: What could they ask? What should you study? How should you study?
   4. Patient preparation: Consent, Scheduling and screening, Patient education, and Immobilization
   5. Patient assessment
      1. History
      2. Monitoring: Vital signs, Heart rhythm and cardiac cycle, and Oximetry
      3. Lab values: Renal function (BUN, creatinine clearance, GFR, creatinine), Blood coagulation (PT, PTT, platelet, INR), and Other (D-dinner)
      4. Medications
   6. IV Procedures
      1. Venipuncture: Site selection and Aseptic and sterile technique
      2. Injection techniques: Manual and Automatic (Single phase, Multi-phase, and Flow rate)
   7. Contrast Agents
      1. Types: Ionic, non-ionic, Hyperosmolar, iso-osmolar, Barium sulfate, Water soluble (iodinated), Air, Water
      2. Administration route and dose calculations: IV, Oral, Rectal, Intrathecal, Catheters, and Intra-articular
      3. Special considerations: Allergy preparation, Pathologic processes, Contraindications, and Indications
      4. Adverse reactions: Recognition and assessment of symptoms, Treatment (compresses, medications), and Documentation
2. Imaging Procedures (Sectional Anatomy Review, Contrast Media, Scanning Procedures): Head, Neck, Chest, Abdomen/Pelvis, and Musculoskeletal
3. Physics and Instrumentation
   1. CT System Principles, Operation, and Components: Tube, Generator and transformers, Detector configuration, Data acquisition systems (DAS), Collimation, Computer and Array Processor, and Equipment Maintenance
   2. Radiation Safety and Dosimetry
   3. Technical Factors Affecting Patient Dose: kVp, mAs, Pitch, Collimation, mA modulation techniques, Multidetector configuration, and Gating
   4. Radiation Protection
   5. Dose Measurement: CT Dose Index (CTDI), Multiple Scan Average Dose (MSAD), and Dose Length Product (DLP)
   6. Patient Dose Reduction: Pediatric and Adult
   7. Image Processing: Reconstruction and Post-processing
   8. Image Display
   9. Informatics
   10. Image Quality
   11. Artifact Recognition and Reduction
