Scott Kopetz, M.D., Ph.D., is a physician-scientist who enjoys the intellectual challenges of the lab, the emotional engagement of the clinic and has the motivation to bridge the two.
Every day that I have the opportunity to treat patients in clinic, I see the personal impact this debilitating disease has on patients and their families. It's the strongest motivation for what we do.
The focus the Colorectal Cancer Moon Shot™ is to enhance early detection and monitoring, understand the molecular subtypes of the disease and explore immunotherapy strategies for a tumor that has been historically resistant to such approaches.
We're aiming to improve early and noninvasive detection of colorectal cancer and identify therapies that address the molecular subtypes of colorectal cancer, which represent distinct diseases and have unique immunologic profiles.
The close interactions between the lab and clinic have always defined what is best at MD Anderson, but the Moon Shot Program™ provides an even greater opportunity to bring the best science together and make a lasting impact.
I'm motivated by the opportunity to rapidly translate science into interventions that can make a difference for patients.
Cancer is a formidable adversary, but with the effort of the Moon Shot™ community and institution, we're up for the task of vanquishing this terrible foe.
