A look back at FY24
Emphasis on excellence, environment and impact
In Fiscal Year 2024, our MD Anderson community came together in remarkable ways. For the tenth consecutive year, our institution was No. 1 in the nation for cancer care on U.S. News & World Report’s 2024-2025 “Best Hospitals” list, and was also recognized by Forbes, Glassdoor, Newsweek and Military Times. These accolades are a testament to the dedication of our 27,000 teammates and for the patients and families we serve. And they are a direct result of the three focus areas that drive our teams each day: excellence, environment and impact.
Excellence is at the core of everything we do. In FY24, MD Anderson was again rated a five-star organization by Vizient and saw one of the lowest Serious Safety Event Rates ever, exemplifying a strong commitment to quality and accountability. MD Anderson was recognized as a Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Program sponsor, reinforcing our goal of developing the next generation of oncology experts. Our research impact continued to expand, with double-digit growth in abstracts presented by our clinicians and researchers at major scientific conferences. And as the Greater Houston community faced the debilitating consequences of Hurricane Beryl, thousands of teammates worked tirelessly to ensure the diligent support and protection of our patients.
We seek to cultivate an environment that inspires our patients, their families and our teams. We believe that every interaction matters, and a holistic space for patients and employees enhances the patient journey. This fiscal year, we made strides toward elevating the MD Anderson environment through experiential design planning in lockstep with our capital expansion plans in Houston and in Austin. Employee-focused initiatives such as the Meyers Institute for Oncology Nursing, which is a first-of-its-kind institute, introduced programs dedicated to enhancing wellness, professional development and innovation for our nurses.
MD Anderson is focused on maximizing our impact on humanity through Our Strategy, and we continue to see exceptional outcomes aligned with our strategic themes of Reach, Breakthroughs and Value. We announced global collaborations with the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Union for International Cancer Control, the Pan American Health Organization and the Ministry of Health in Zambia. Through our Breakthroughs theme, we launched two new institutes to build on the expertise of world-class faculty: the Institute for Data Science in Oncology in 2023, and the Institute for Cell Therapy Discovery & Innovation in 2024. And through our Value theme, we advanced a comprehensive goal-concordant care program, which compassionately aligns patients’ values with their care plans.
This year’s annual report includes the stories and testimonials of our teammates, our patients and our supporters who inspire hope and enable our progress. It exemplifies that our work is not just about today; it is about paving the way for a better tomorrow. And as we raise the standards of excellence, elevate our environment and create unparalleled impact, we do so with the focus and resolve that bring us closer to Making Cancer History®.
