Retiree Insurance Benefits
Qualified retirees and their eligible dependents are eligible to continue to participate in many of the same insurance programs and at the same rates as active employees.
MD Anderson is proud to continue to provide 100% of the premium for retiree medical coverage. Additionally, MD Anderson provides retirees enrolled in the medical plan with $6,000 in life insurance at no charge.

Enrollment
Retirement is a change in status, and requires retirees to enroll in the retiree insurance within 31 days of their retirement date.
Please call myHR at 713-745-6947 approximately two months before your retirement to schedule a meeting with the Benefits department to review and enroll in your insurance benefits.
Other opportunities to enroll in benefits include Annual Enrollment and events qualifying as a change in status.

Eligibility
When can you receive Retiree Medical Insurance Benefits? You must meet all requirements.
If on 8/31/03 you were employed in a benefits-eligible position with a UT System institution and later retire from UT System, you can receive retiree medical insurance benefits when:
- You have at least three years of service with a UT System institution in a position that was eligible for the benefits plan; and
- Your last state employer before retirement was with a UT System institution; and
- You have retired under the rules of TRS, ERS or ORP; and
- Your age + years of state service credit are greater than or equal to 80 with at least five years of state service credit
OR
You are 55 with five years of state service credit
If on 9/1/03 or later you began work in a benefits-eligible position with UT System, you can receive retiree medical insurance benefits when:
- You have at least 10 years of service with a UT System institution in a position that was eligible for the benefits plan; and
- Your last state employer before retirement was with a UT System institution; and
- You retire under rules of TRS, ERS or ORP; and
- Your age + years state service credit are greater than or equal to 80 with 10 years of state service credit
OR
You are 65 with 10 years of state service credit

Rates
Rates for retirees and dependents are the same as for full-time employees.
