Researchers at MD Anderson are empowered to conduct cross-disciplinary, collaborative science to accelerate discovery, including implementing speculative approaches that might yield radical innovation. The institution invested more than $900 million in research last year, and it has made significant investments for the future, including a new state-of-the-art research facility in the TMC3 life-sciences complex.
Successful candidates are expected to establish an independent, extramurally funded research program that complements existing research strengths at MD Anderson, in the themes listed below. Research should emphasize mechanistic studies and novel computational methods with relevance to multiple cancer types. Competitive applications will describe a clear line of sight for their program to broaden multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborations intended to improve cancer care and outcomes.
Interested basic and translational science applicants should hold a PhD, MD or MD/PhD and have at least two years of postdoctoral training with an exceptional publication record. For applications in research domains such as data science and modeling, data visualization, or dissemination and implementation science, the relevant and impactful experience will be prioritized over traditional length-of-training requirements.
MD Anderson provides generous research laboratory space and startup packages, and eligible candidates will be encouraged to seek additional recruitment awards from the Cancer Research and Prevention Institute of Texas (CPRIT). Faculty can participate in and recruit from the outstanding training and mentoring programs for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a board-prepared or board-certified physician at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher to join our growing academic department in the world’s largest medical center, located in Houston, Texas. The 44-bed emergency department has an annual census of nearly 30,000. This is an exceptional opportunity for emergency physicians to support the development of oncologic emergency medicine as a distinct sub-discipline. Responsibilities include providing patient care in oncologic emergencies as well as supervising and educating medical students, residents, and fellows.
Education & Licensure
The Assistant Professor must have completed the M.D. degree in an accredited medical school or equivalent, must have completed residency training in an approved American Residency Program or equivalent, have made application and been accepted by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or Internal Medicine, and be licensed as a physician in the State of Texas. Must be board certified in Emergency Medicine or Internal Medicine (or foreign equivalent if applicable) or obtain board certification within 3 years of employment. At least 2 years of experience as an Instructor or 5 years post degree with any combination of time as a clinician, clinical scientist, or GME trainee (except specialties with shorter residency or fellowship).
Oncologic Emergency Medicine Fellowship
The Oncologic Emergency Medicine fellowship provides 12 to 24 months of advanced training in the growing sub-discipline of oncologic emergency medicine. This one-year (with optional second year) fellowship will offer an outstanding opportunity to highly qualified applicants who will contribute to this emerging sub-discipline. The program concentrates on cancer-related emergencies, pain, and symptom management, as well as palliative aspects of emergency department cancer care beyond that provided in a classical emergency medicine residency. Upon completion, it is expected that the fellowship will provide a career track that is focused in clinical care and enable a physician to provide superior cancer care in both academic and community settings.

The Department of Interventional Radiology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is one of the largest Interventional Radiology groups in the country. Our group is entirely focused on serving the needs of our cancer patients. We performed over 26,000 procedures in 2023. Our breadth of procedures spans the oncology and non-oncology spheres. We perform procedures at IR-dedicated facilities at the Texas Medical Center and two outpatient clinics in the surrounding Houston-area. Our research program is well-funded. We have a dedicated pre-clinical lab to conduct translational experiments. The pre-clinical lab is equipped with its own state-of-the-art hybrid CT and angiography system. We also have dedicated research staff to facilitate clinical studies conducted by our faculty. We train the next generation of leaders in Interventional Radiology through an independent IR residency, integrated IR-DR residency program in affiliation with UT-Houston, and advanced Interventional Oncology Fellowship sponsored by UT MD Anderson.

Develop and implement specific continuing education programs pertaining to neuro oncology. Attend and participate in department/division teaching and continuing education conferences, which require verbal interaction with colleagues and walking to meeting locations throughout the hospital and campus.
III. Actively engage in clinical research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the department. Develop programs of clinical research and scholarly activities in keeping with the goals of the department. Require that the person have the ability to synthesize a myriad of information pertaining to the area of research. May necessitate (orally or in writing) instructing research support personnel in protocol implementation. Seek appropriate funding mechanisms to support clinical research. May require completion of grant application forms through oral dictation or use of a computer and keyboard. Also will require budget development and analysis.
IV. Represent the Department of Neuro Oncology in local, regional, state and national matters pertaining to the field of neuro oncology and effects of cancer on the central nervous system. Will require traveling to sites outside of the Houston area and, upon return, disseminating the information obtained or learned by sharing with department colleagues verbally or in writing.
V. Practice in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners and the American College of Physicians, properly balanced with other academic activities.
VI. Develop and maintain a neurology/neuro oncology practice for patients referred to the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Provide physician staffing for the outpatient clinic and the inpatient service at a level commensurate with that which would be provided by other clinical neurologist/neuro oncologist with the same level of training and experience. Visually review for proper ICD-10 and CPT coding and approve all charge documents within 2 working days. This position has a target base salary of $180,600 to $ 273,400 and is eligible for incentive compensation, comprehensive health, wellness, time off, savings, and retirement benefits, as well as relocation support, as applicable.
