How do I make a new patient appointment at MD Anderson?
To start the appointment process, fill out our online appointment request form, or call us at 1-877-632-6789 and press option 2.
How long will it take to get an appointment?
The length of time before your first appointment will vary depending on your diagnosis.
Can I just get a second opinion and then leave?
Yes, most of the centers at MD Anderson offer second opinions on treatment, and you don’t have to make a commitment to receive treatment through us.
How long will I need to be in Houston for my first appointment?
Your first in-person visit may take several days while tests are completed and a care plan developed. Your length of stay will depend on your treatment plan and you will learn more after you arrive. Learn more about preparing for your first visit.
How do I reschedule or cancel an upcoming appointment?
To cancel or reschedule an appointment online and/or to send a general message to your scheduler:
1. Select "My Appointments"
2. Select "Upcoming Appointments"
3. Select/open the appointment with the doctor
4. Scroll down and select "Cancel" (If you wish to reschedule, just indicate that in your message)
This will allow you to send an online message to the appropriate scheduler. You won't be able to select on a diagnostic appointment to send a message, only the appointment with the doctor.

Can I bring my children with me to my appointment?
Please review the latest information about MD Anderson's updated visitor policy due to COVID-19 precautions. If you have questions about our visitor policy, contact Patient Advocacy.
Due to safety concerns, patients or their visitor should not bring anyone else with them to an appointment. This includes children under 18 and adults who are unable to care for or move themselves. Appointments will be rescheduled if a patient or visitor arrives with someone who is dependent upon them for care.

Do you take my insurance?
If you are enrolled in a managed care plan (HMO, PPO or POS), your treatment at MD Anderson may be covered by insurance. Check our list of currently accepted insurance plans. If you don’t see your plan listed or you have insurance questions, call 877-632-6789.
Please note that this list is not comprehensive. It is typically up to the insurance company to determine if the plans they offer will allow access to MD Anderson. Insurance is also verified when going through the new patient appointment process. Please contact your insurance carrier to verify your coverage and/or benefits.
How do I get copies of my medical records?
The Release of Information office is the best place to contact to obtain copies of your doctor's notes and labs. Their direct number is 713-792-6710. If you need to obtain images and/or radiology reports, then you will need to call the Film Library at 713-792-6210.
How do I request an appointment?
You can request an appointment online by using your MyChart account. After you log in,
1. Select "My Appointments"
2. Select "Request an Appointment"

Who do I contact with questions about my care?
Your clinical care team can assist you. You may want to send them a message by logging in to your MyChart account and:
1. Go to "Messaging" in the menu at the top
2. Select "Ask a Question"
3. Select "New Medical Question"
4. Select the appropriate provider team from the drop-down list
Each message goes to the entire care team to ensure your message is read in a timely manner. If you need to add a provider to your list, please ask your care team or center staff to do so.

Where should I tell my visitors to come?
This will depend on where you are receiving treatment. A list of patient care locations in the Texas Medical Center is here, and the addresses of all of our locations are here. Details on where to park and how to navigate the Texas Medical Center are available, too.
You can also use the access system, which offers several methods to get your visitors where they need to go. They can find directions using either an address or a landmark, or locate buildings either by name (e.g. Mays Clinic) or by entering your appointment information.

You may call Customer Service & Billing directly at 800-527-2318. Their office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Standard Time.
To send a message online to Customer Service and Billing, go to MyChart to log in. Next:

What is MyChart?
MyChart is a secure, personalized web portal that helps you take an active role in managing your care at MD Anderson. You can use the web portal or the mobile app to access your health information, send messages, find directions, reschedule or request appointments and see test results.
Can you help me with my MyChart account?
Yes, askMDAnderson can assist patients with creating accounts, resetting passwords and navigational questions. Please call 877-632-6789 for assistance by phone. You may also send us an online message.
Our office hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Central Standard Time. Saturday, Sunday and holidays, health information specialists are available 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Do you have a MyChart mobile app?
Yes. You can use the MyChart mobile app to access your health record on your mobile phone or tablet. It is available through Apple's app store or Google Play.
I am a new patient. How do I access my MyChart account?
1. If you’re a new patient, you should have received an activation code.
2. After obtaining your activation code, go to mychart.mdanderson.org and click on "I'm a patient." Please enter:
- Activation code that was emailed to you
- Medical record number (MRN)
- Date of birth
3. On the next screen, create a username (needs to be alpha and numeric and you won’t be able to use your MRN to create the account) and create a password (7-12 characters; alpha and numeric)
4. Enter email address on your profile
5. If you ever forget your username, then you can use your MRN to log in.
6. Also, you can use all web browser versions for MyChart but Chrome tends to work the best.

Texas Medical Center (TMC): The Texas Medical Center website lists several options for lodging in and around MD Anderson. Make sure to ask for the “medical rate,” which is usually lower than the standard rate. All hotels reserve the right to change their rates at any time.
Rotary House International: The Jesse H. Jones Rotary House International is a full-service hotel, owned by MD Anderson Cancer Center and managed by Marriott International. The hotel is dedicated to serving the needs of MD Anderson patients and their families while in Houston.

How do I send flowers to someone staying at the hospital?
It’s easy to deliver a healthy dose of good cheer to an MD Anderson patient.
Step 1: Find out your friend or loved one’s room number. If you don’t know it, you may call the Welcome Center at 713-792-2121 or 800-889-2094 (toll-free) for assistance.
Step 2: Check with the floor’s charge nurse for restrictions. Some patients may not be able to keep fresh flowers or live plants in their rooms due to the risk of infection. If flowers or plants aren’t allowed, consider sending a balloon bouquet or snack gift basket instead.
Step 3: Place your order. You can do this through the florist of your choice or by calling MD Anderson’s The Park Flower and Gift Shop at 713-792-4438. Please make sure to communicate any restrictions before ordering.

Can I donate blood to a particular patient?
Family and friends may donate blood in honor of their loved one. Patients receive a monetary credit issued to their account for every successful donation.
MD Anderson does not provide direct blood donations. This means we do not reserve blood donations by family members or friends for a specific patient. All blood donations help to ensure an adequate blood supply for all patients.

Each adult outpatient may have 1 adult (18 and older) caregiver accompany them to their appointment.
Each hospital patient (also called an inpatient) may have 1 adult (age 18 or older) caregiver at the bedside at all times. This person may accompany the patient when they are admitted to the hospital at any time of day.
An additional adult may visit during patient visitation hours:

When you give to MD Anderson Cancer Center, you have the opportunity to make a tremendous difference in the lives of cancer patients by supporting innovative cancer patient care, research, education and prevention programs.

I would like to raise money for MD Anderson. What is the best way to start?
Fundraising at MD Anderson is a large part of our mission because it creates hope for a world without cancer. Bake sales, golf tournaments, motorcycle rides, art shows and run/walk events are an important part of the institution’s philanthropy. On average, around $1.5 million is raised annually from these types of events.
Hosting a fundraiser is a great way to become an active participant in the fight against cancer with MD Anderson.
There are two ways to help us raise money:
1. You can lead a campaign by creating a fundraising account, choosing your cause. This cause could be an event you choose such as a birthday party, school book drive, run/walk event, or any other idea you may have. Decide on the amount to raise and what cause you want to support at MD Anderson. Your goal could be $10 or $1,000 or more. There is no limit.
2. Make a financial contribution to support an existing fundraising event.

Do you offer any outreach programs?
Yes. MD Anderson Cancer Center offers community outreach programs to educate people about reducing their cancer risk. Learn more about our outreach programs.

MD Anderson representatives are available to provide cancer prevention information at health fairs or special health-related events in Houston and surrounding areas. View a library or our print materials. You can request print materials by completing the online request form or call 713-792-3363.
Does MD Anderson sponsor events?
MD Anderson sponsors a variety of charitable events to support the local community. We participate as a way to invest in the community, and to have the opportunity to educate people about healthy behaviors to reduce cancer risks. Priority consideration is given to events in Harris and surrounding counties, cancer-focused events, and events that align with current institutional priorities. Sponsorship requests usually require four months’ notice to ensure funding availability and to allow time for institutional participation.
