Thoracic Surgery and Oncology

MD Anderson’s Thoracic Center provides personalized care for every type and stage of lung cancer and other cancers in the chest region. Our nationally recognized expertise allows us to offer hope for lung cancer patients whose disease may be considered untreatable elsewhere.

Lung cancer and mesothelioma often require a combination of treatments. Our thoracic surgeons, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists will create a multidisciplinary treatment plan based on your exact diagnosis.

Proton therapy, highly focused radiation treatments and minimally invasive, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) are just some of the treatment options that can be used alone or in combination to treat your cancer.

Clinical research doctors in the Thoracic Center are developing new mesothelioma treatments, many of which are only available in MD Anderson clinical trials. A team of more than 30 mesothelioma experts work together to customize treatment and provide ongoing patient support.
